the superimposition

Double exposure as we forget to wind the film. But this was the day. I sit in a bundle of kids. There were 8 million stories in these two minutes.

You can see the Red, the Green, the Star of the Moroccan flag even though the image appears in shades of gray. Defiance without offense! Peace in abundance! Joy! all cooperating for one moment that runs like deep still waters.

do like this

"Do like this," I said in my three or four arabic words they taught me on the spot. Captured: the global ethic of fascination and serious focus. A whole head can, indeed, be extraneous. A smile is always on time.

the face belies the joy of this young photographer turned subject. The smile of "let's take a picture - me and you" turns into a taciturn look. But, there's a revelation here: click! photo over. smile returns. "That was fun!"

The two you see here were the most enthusiastic of the crew, taking turns shooting, teaching others to shoot once they quickly learned how, and, here, becoming the subjects. In this world, no one is ever really "cut off" in a picture. The eye, arm, and hand make for the best of complete accompaniment. Joy!

All we can say is wow. Corny, but we must say it: Tears welled up when we felt the depth of this pose. You will want everything in life to go well for them, if only spirits like these can be maintained.

Raja Casablanca, a Moroccan club team (football), is near, but also, seemingly, the farthest thing from this young man's thoughts. Many thanks to the young eye for capturing a pensive moment only available to the young eye.

Only the youngest photographer can eavesdrop in clear view without disturbing the nature of the subject. We not only have a different vision at this age, but also a different access.

it's us

it's us, originally uploaded by ownmoroc06.

t's only cliche to say we are "different...but alike" when we don't actually visit the ostensibly different to discover how we really are alike. This diversion, on another hot day, takes place in Rabat...but, of course, in Dallas, Seattle, Barcelona. I mean, wherever there are kids being kids. And that would be anywhere a young person may be afforded the mental and physical space to do that.
